The celestial hair accessories at Rodarte’s Fall 2012 showing were simply stunning. It would be lovely to see these on free-spirited brides like you! We’re looking for similar pieces as we type…
While the Haute Couture collections provide insight into the most decadent fashion trends, what has also emerged from the highly sophisticated Paris shows are some extremely relevant and quite wearable beauty trends that are perfect for a today’s bride.
This homage to classic, timeless beauty was most clearly embodied at Christian Dior where graceful, swan-like beauties evoked a pristine 1950’s quality, reminiscent of iconic screen legend Grace Kelly. A glowing semi-matte complexion was punctuated by perfectly applied liquid liner on the top lash-line to elongate the eyes. A soft shimmery white eye-shadow was swept across the eyelids and inner corners of the eyes, and an unassuming neutral beige tone was used to softly contour the crease. A band of false lashes topped the lids off while eyebrows were elegantly defined and arched to create fullness. Lips were glazed in a soft peach tone.
This look works extremely well for the brides because of its chic, timeless and classic qualities and it is also very easy to duplicate. As always, a memorable makeup look starts with a beautiful complexion. For foundation, Dior’s Capture Totale Radiance Restoring Serum Foundation and Chantecaille’s New Skin Foundation are amazing. After foundation, finishing powder is extremely important. The right one won’t look too reflective in photos or wash you out. Mally Beauty’s Poreless Perfection Skin Finisher is virtually invisible while it absorbs excess shine. Keep excess oil at bay conveniently throughout your big day with Tatcha Aburatorigami Japanese Blotting Papers – an absolute must for every bride!
The defining element of this look is a precise stroke of black liquid liner. Our top picks in this category are Dior’s Style Liner, Stila’s Smudge Pot and Nars’ Larger Than Life Long Wearing Liner. For the eyes, long-wearing, durable products are key to keeping your look fresh all day and into the night. Dior Beauté’s eyeshadows are unbeatable, as are the brand’s extensive range of Diorshow Mascaras - the go-to line for red-carpet lashes. And for the best selection of false lashes in realistic styles, Ardell offers an amazing yet affordable selection.
And now the finishing touches, brows and lips! Take a little extra time to groom and define your brows. Eyebrows are very important for brides because they frame the face. The perfect brow may require a bit of extra work, but the payoff is worth it. Anastasia of Beverly Hills provides the greatest selection of brow perfecting essentials. Lastly, gloss your lips off with your favorite shade of pale from Three Custom Color, and you’re all set.

New Year’s Eve is certainly a time for celebration and beauty is the perfect means of expressing a festive holiday spirit. This year, convey your more adventurous side and add a jovial touch to your make-up. For the more daring, perhaps try a little sparkle eyeliner or shadow, false eyelashes or even a daring, vibrant lip color. Fun holiday make-up is a very economical way to update a stand-by outfit, as well. Regardless, have some fun and celebrate the New Year and your beauty! The following suggestions are sure to be the perfect solution to add some dazzle in 2012.
Whatever direction your make-up is going, always begin with perfectly groomed eyebrows. Brows are perhaps the most important facial feature and the new year is the ideal time to begin a brow routine if you haven’t already. For the very best selection of essential eyebrow tools and products look no further than Anastasia of Beverly Hills. The world’s leading eyebrow specialist has created a full range of brow products- from pencils, stencils, gels, tools as well as a fabulous range of color cosmetics and skincare. The Highlighting Cream Duo is one of our ultimate go-to products.
For a more dramatic approach, focus on the eyes and as previously mentioned, a touch of sparkle is the perfect solution for festive New Year’s Eve eyes. We love Make Up For Ever’s Diamond Powder or Metal Powder for a touch of sophisticated sparkle. Combined with black liner and for the daring, perhaps some false lashes. All eyes will be on you!
A bold mouth has been a significant beauty trend for several seasons because a bright lip is a highly impactful way to charge up your visage. A little splurge on a new shade or two is a great investment for the up-coming season! Deep reds, plums and vibrant pinks look great for this particular occasion. Three Custom Color produces some of our favorite shades in the most durable formulations of lip color, gloss, and liner for perfectly kissable New Year’s Eve lips. We also love the Three Custom’s amazing selection of powder and cream blush.

While runway-inspired beauty trends are tremendously motivating for every day make-up, beauty for a wedding is an entirely different entity altogether. Between the dress, hairstyle, and accessories, make-up can play a rather significant role in creating the perfect balance. Choosing the right make-up style is absolutely key to completing your wedding-day look. Emerging from the Spring 2012 runways however are extremely wearable beauty trends ideal for the sophisticated, modern bride. The standout look of the season is chic and minimal, consisting mainly of a glowingly polished complexion punctuated with well-defined eyebrows and soft, barely-there color on lips and cheeks.
Re-creating this clean approach to beauty can be rather simple, but to really perfect the look, start with a thoroughly cleansed and hydrated complexion. Establishing a good skin care regimen is best to set in motion a few months prior to your wedding so that skin is radiant and glowing. Princess Theodora is the perfect skincare solution for pre-wedding skin pampering. Based on ancient royal beauty secrets and formulated with the finest essential oils and active botanicals, this highly effective range of products provides an incredibly refreshing beauty experience. You will see a difference in your skin tone and texture almost immediately, with visible results that will continue to improve with regular use.
After skincare has been properly absorbed into the skin, apply a small amount of Kevyn Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Primer to ensure flawless, long-lasting coverage. Following primer, use Beauty Blender to apply Kevyn Aucoin’s Liquid Airbrush Foundation, which creates a natural-looking finish with amazing coverage. For any lingering dark circles, blemishes, or imperfections, touch up with Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer Concealer.
Once base makeup has set, brush up brows and enhance shape and color with Kevyn Aucoin’s Precision Brow Pencil (Expert tip: Mixing two similar pencil shades will create more depth and texture). Sweep upper lashes with a good coat of Aucoin’s The Mascara for a softly lifted eye. Keep eyelids neutral using the lighter shades of Aucoin’s Essential Eye Shadow Palettes. Sculpt cheeks with a soft pink shade of Creamy Glow cream blush, and then create the perfect lip shade using the new Lip Palette – featuring a vibrant range of pinks and corals. Lacquer the lips, et voilà! You’re ready to walk down The Aisle, runway style.

Circle September 8th in the ol’ datebooks ladies as that’s when the Les Jeans de Chanel nail polish trio hits Chanel boutique shelves. (One doesn’t really hit Chanel shelves as much as arrive on a pillowy, quilted landing, but no matter.) Blue Rebel, Blue Boy and Coco Blue—it’s hard to pick a favorite, isn’t it?

For those of you craving a little more beauty in your life - aren’t we all? - we are thrilled to introduce to you our new beauty contributor, Geoffrey Rodriguez. Having worked with beauty icons like Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham, Mary Steenburgen, and Blake Lively, and apprenticing with makeup guru Vincent Longo, Geoffrey is the go-to source for our vexing beauty questions. In the coming weeks he’ll be sharing summer wedding tips with us, but first, a little Q & A with the makeup master.
What is your beauty philosophy? “My personal philosophy is really about discovering, creating, and embracing one’s individuality.”
Which celebrities have you worked with? “I have worked with several celebrities and top fashion editors, including Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson, Mary Steenburgen, Blake Lively, Gabby Reece, Anna Wintour (Vogue), and Glenda Bailey (Harper’s Bazaar)”
What is your favorite beauty product? “My favorite beauty product is the Beauty Blender. It’s absolutely the most essential and practical tool that everyone can use.”
What is the biggest beauty mistake that women make on their wedding days? “I think that women often lose sight of their individuality and listen to too many outside opinions or try to emulate someone that they are not. While having some references of inspiration is important, a bride is truly the most beautiful when she looks comfortable and confident and that comes from within, regardless of all the frills. Knowing what works best for the individual is the most important aspect, for any bride and that certainly includes makeup.”

Our beauty takeaway from The Royal Wedding? The brows have it. We love that Kate isn’t afraid of a bold, face-shaping eyebrow. We’ve been hiding from our tweezers all weekend!
